COMPOSITION
Each 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) contains:
Dextromethorphan HBr.................................. 5 mg
Chlorpheniramine Maleate ........................ 1.33 mg
Sodium Citrate Dihydrate ............................ 133 mg
Glyceryl Guaiacolate (Guaifenesin)................ 50 mg
Excipients: Ammonium Chloride, Sucrose, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Bisulfite, Citric Acid Anhydrous, Saccharin Sodium, DC Red 33, Wild Cherry Flavor.
INDICATIONS
For relieving cough symptoms due to the common cold, flu, tuberculosis, bronchitis, pertussis, measles, pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheitis, tracheobronchitis, pleural irritation, inhalation of irritating substances, cigarette smoking, and psb/chogenic cough.
DOSAGE AND INSTRUCTION FOR USE
Orally, every 6 to 8 hours or as prescribed by the physician
2 — 6 years ........... 5 mL (1 sachet or 1 teaspoonful)
7— 12 years .... 10 mL (2 sachets or 2 teaspoonfuls)
Adults and children more than 12 years 15 mL (3 sachets or 3 teaspoonfuls)
Infants under 2 years: ask a doctor before use.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Patients are hypersensitive to any ingredients in the formula or receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
Patients with acute asthma exacerbation, narrow-angle glaucoma, pyloric stenotic gastric ulcer, pyloric-duodenal obstruction, and retention of urine due to dysfunction of urethra-prostate.
PRECAUTIONS
ANSSIN" should be used with caution in patients with cough associated with excessive secretions, chronic cough that occurs with smoking, asthma, emphysema, respiratory depression and in patients operating machinery or driving vehicles.
Use in pregnancy: Ask a doctor before use
Use in lactation: MOM should not be used for lactating women.
SIDE-EFFECTS
Fatigue, vertigo, headache, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flushing, urticaria, somnolence, sedation, dry mouth.
Please inform your doctor of all undesirable effects upon drug administration.
OVERDOSE AND TREATMENT
Symptoms of dextromethorphan overdose include nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, nystagmus, hallucinations, urinary retention, respiratory depression, seizures. Treatment is supportive. Naloxone, 2 mg intravenous with repeat administration as necessary up to a total dose of 10 mg is recommended.
Symptoms of chlorpheniramine overdose may include drowse, CNS stimulation, seizure, apnea, convulsion, anticholinergic effects, disorders of muscle tone, cardiovascular collapse, arrhythmias. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic; gastric lavage or inducing of emesis by ipecacuanha syrup is recommended; then activated charcoal and detergent should be given to limit absorption. In case of hypotension and arrhythmia, intensive care is necessary. Intravenous phenytoin or diazepam may useful for treatment of convulsion. Blood transfusion may be necessary in severe cases.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants may prolong and intensify the anticholinergic and CNS depressant effects of antihistamines.
